Sitting on top of a hill just outside the center of Rome, this luxury hotel bar embraces you as you enter the door. It is spacious and sumptuous and ... RED.  The comfortable couches near the pianist (a reincarnation of Play it Again Sam) are the best spots, and the service is lightening fast. The pianist is a delightful backdrop without being invasive and plays adorably to the customers. An array of fresh satisfying snacks appear and the fragrance, 1st impact and temperature of the martini are as expected for this temple of excellence ... perfect. It was such delight that we amplified the snacks by ordering a delicious roast-beef sandwich thereby resolving dinner. 4 Martini glasses.

Adagiato sulla cima di un colle appena fuori dal centro di Roma, il bar di questo hotel di lusso ti abbraccia appena entri. È ampio e sontuoso e ... ROSSO. I confortevoli sofà vicino al pianista (la reincarnazione di Provaci ancora Sam) costituiscono la migliore delle attrazioni, e il servizio è spedito e veloce. Il pianista fa da delizioso sfondo e, discreto e non invasivo, suona in maniera adorabile per i clienti. Un assortimento di gustosi stuzzichini si materializza e la fragranza, il primo impatto e la temperatura del martini sono in linea alle attese per questo tempio di eccellenza... perfetti. Siamo stati talmente bene da desiderare di amplificare gli snacks fino a ordinare un delizioso panino al roast-beef adeguato a risolvere la nostra cena. 4 bicchieri di Martini.

Tasting our Martini either by the pool or on the huge peaceful terrace perched on the edge of the Gulf of Mondello, is like celebrating the rite of the aperitive while sitting at the stern of a sailboat moored just outside the harbor, at the right distance to spy on the decelerated marine life of a little mediterranean island. Add to this atmosphere the nice dry, icy preparation, based on a good classic Bombay Sapphire, gently stirred  with a few drops of Dry Martini, and you can understand how - reaching maximum votes on fragance, 1st impact and temperature - it demands 3 glasses, not withstanding the lack of creativity of the snacks (not the quality) and difficulty in parking (except for hotel guests).  These last 2 points are only venial sins, even easily corrected, with just a little cooperation between barman and cook, and the pleasantness of the stay.

Assaporare il nostro Martini al bordo piscina o sulla grande tranquilla terrazza dell'Hotel, adagiata sul Golfo di Mondello sul pelo dell'acqua, è come celebrare il rito dell'aperitivo seduti a poppa di una barca a vela ormeggiata appena fuori rada, alla distanza giusta per guardare non visti la rallentata vita marinara di una qualsiasi isoletta mediterranea. Se a questa atmosfera aggiungi l'ortodossia di una preparazione ben secca e ghiacciata su base di un sempre valido Bombay Sapphire dolcemente e velocemente mescolato a poche gocce di Dry, puoi comprendere come -toccando i valori massimi su fragranza, primo impatto e temperatura- sei costretto a assegnare un 3 bicchieri, nonostante la mancanza di fantasia (non di qualità) degli snacks e la difficoltà di parcheggio (non per gli ospiti dell'albergo). Sono questi ultimi due soltanto dei peccati veniali, peraltro corregibili con facilità, complici i buoni rapporti tra barman e cuoco e la gradevolezza del soggiorno.

The charming empire-style bar of this luxury venue appeals to our inner hedonist. We pick a comfortable couch near the piano and the service is immediate and masterful. A perfect martini cocktail appears after a minimal explanation of our necessities. The fragrance and temperature are perfect, the glasses iced to the extreme. The fresh tiny pizza rounds were delicious along with some ordinary nuts and chips. The overall relaxing atmosphere adds to the experience. The room, open to the entrance of the hotel, is grandiose but peaceful. 3 glasses.

L'affascinante bar stile impero di questo luogo sontuoso solletica il nostro edonismo più profondo. Sprofondiamo su un comodo divano vicino al pianoforte e si materializza un servizio veloce e concreto. Un perfetto martini cocktail appare dopo una sommaria spiegazione delle nostre preferenze. La fragranza e la temperatura sono perfette, i bicchieri ghiacciati alla perfezione estrema. I piccoli rotoli di pizza fragrante deliziosi così come le solite croccanti usuali noci tostate e le patatine. L'atmosfera rilassante che ci circonda amplifica le nostre sensazioni. La sala, accogliente, posta nell'ingresso dell'albergo, è grandiosa ma tranquilla. 3 bicchieri.

At sunset,climbing up the mule trail that takes you up up to the high part of Pollina, before the little amphitheatre, you come upon two or three kiosks, with only a few tables and unmatched chairs on a lookout with a breathtaking view: underneath you, hundreds of meters of steep rugged Sicilian countryside pull away from the sea, the unlimited expanse of blue before you hugs the shore from Cefalù to the Aeolians, which only - thanks to the intense red of the recent sun - do you make out the sea from the sky. What has this to do with a Martini Cocktail?? Nothing and everything.
Nothing: The kiosks are very much alike and one doesn't need to bother choosing one over another, in fact they share an absolute ignorance in the art of making a Martini Cocktail.
Everything: The courtesy of the bartender toward the guest makes it easy for you to insist on explaining your idea of a great Martini: triangular glass, slightly stirred with a simple hint of dry vermouth, fragrance of lemon peel, big meaty olive, polar temperature. The opposite appears: squat glass, an ok Gordon's, and no dry vermouth. This makes you remember the mythical Hemingway (It's been told that even he used a whiskey glass and emerged the ice in the gin, and a drop of any strong white wine) so we had a drop of old sicilian wine added. We will skip the usual votes, except for the price -- ridiculously low) but we give it 3 glasses: 1 each to Barman, to Hemingway and to the panorama of Pollina. In effect, even this is the art of the martini.

Inerpicandosi al tramonto per la mulattiera che porta su su nella parte alta di Pollina, prima del piccolo anfiteatro, ti imbatti in due o tre chioschetti, appena qualche tavolo e quattro sedie spaiate su un belvedere mozzafiato: sotto di te centinaia di metri scoscesi di aspra campagna siciliana che si stacca sul mare, davanti a te la distesa sconfinata di azzurro, che abbraccia da Cefalù alle Eolie, che solo grazie al rosso intenso dell'ultimo sole riesci ad assegnare al mare piuttosto che al cielo. Che c'entra tutto questo col Martini ? Niente e tutto.
Niente: i due o tre chioschetti si equivalgono e non devi far fatica a scegliere, infatti condividono una assoluta ignoranza di cosa sia un Martini Cocktail.
Tutto: la cortesia del barman verso l'ospite non lo rende geloso del suo mestiere e ti fa parlare senza ritegno di ciò che ami: bicchiere a triangolo, buon gin, dolcemente agitato con un semplice accenno di vermouth dry, fragranza di scorzetta di limone, grande oliva carnosa, temperatura polare. Arriva tutt'altro ma il miracolo si compie lo stesso: il bicchiere è tozzo, il gin è soltanto un dignitoso Gordon's, e manca del tutto il Martini dry. A questo punto ripensiamo al mitico Hemingway (si racconta che anch'egli utilizzava il bicchiere da whisky e che si limitava a immergere nel gin il ghiaccio e il solo tappo di sughero di un qualsiasi forte vino bianco) e facciamo aggiungere un goccio di vecchio vino siciliano. Il resto è in discesa: il ghiaccio non manca e la fragranza del limone e delle olive siciliane fà il resto. Saltiamo le singole voci di giudizio (tranne il prezzo-irrisorio) ma assegniamo direttamente 3 bicchieri: 1 bicchiere ciascuno al barman, a Hemingway e al panorama di Pollina. Tant'è, l'arte del Martini è anche questa...

In the center of the city, delicious art-decò atmosphere, fireplace blazing ... We arrive very late and, happy and confused, we let the barman take us by the hand. We abandon our usual Bombay Zaphir and experiment with unusual gins: Whitley Neil (baobab wood) for me and Hendrick's (perfume of cucumber and rose petals) for her. Second round: viceversa. What's more: we resolve dinner with an abundance of the snacks: wonderful selection (fried chicken and shrimp rice balls with ink-fish and other delicacies ...) but with all of this, fried and cold, it was indigestible. We realize that it is our fault (it was already 10pm). Conclusion: Maximum rating, except for the parking-inexistent, with a hold on the evaluation of the snacks: we will go back one of these evenings and we will let you know! Suspended judgement ... but definitely a keeper.

We went back yesterday evening, 10th december, this time exactly at orthodox 19.30. All excellent. The thin slice of cucumber on the border of glass of  Hendrick's mc was absolutely a discovery. No question: four glasses.

Centro città, deliziosa atmosfera art-decò, camino acceso .... Arriviamo tardissimo e, felici e storditi, ci facciamo condurre per mano dal barman. Abbandoniamo il nostro solito Bombay Zaphir e sperimentiamo gin inusuali: Whitley Neil (su legno di baobab) per me e Hendrick's (alla fragranza di cetriolo e petali di rosa) per lei. Al secondo giro viceversa. Facciamo di più: risolviamo la cena chiedendo di darci sotto con gli snacks: selezione superba sulla carta (spiedini di gamberoni e pollo, arancinette di riso al nero di seppia e altre delicatessen...) ma il tutto, fritto e freddo, risulta un pò indigesto. Riconosciamo che la colpa è nostra (si eran fatte le 10 p.m.). Conclusione: tutto al massimo, tranne il parking-inesistente, con una riserva di rivalutazione per gli snacks: ritorneremo una sera di queste e vi sapremo dire. Giudizio sospeso tendente al top.

Torniamo questo 10 dicembre, questa volta alle ortodosse 19.30.
Tutto eccellente, la fettina di cetriolo a bordo bicchiere del mc su base Hendrick's addirittura una scoperta. Risultato obbligato: 4 bicchieri.

A superb location and a superb martini, an elegant venue with a candel-lit courtyard or indoor lounge.
The fragrance is satisfying, 1st impact - very good, temperature-excellent, snacks-they keep coming, and are interesting. At the second martini, the snacks are more robust. Parking-nonexisting, atmosphere-charming.
The martini glass is laid in a bed of crushed ice so the temperature of the martini is perfect. 4 martini glasses.

Una ottima posizione e un martini superbo, una località elegante con il cortile, candele, oppure c'è un lounge dentro.
La fragranza è molto soddisfacente, primo impatto - molto buono, temperatura-eccellente, snack ... continuano a apparire, eppure sono sempre interesanti e vari. Al secondo martini, gli snack sono piu' robusti. Parking-nonesistente, atmosfera-incantevole.
Il bicchiere del martini è posato sul letto di ghiaccio tritato e quindi la temperatura del martini è perfetta. 4 bicchieri martini.

Martini .. Excellent! Not quite cold enough! aroma-good. First impact-quite good, Atmosphere-excellent, parking-not bad, snacks-not much to write about...peanuts and olives, price/qualità-ok. Three martini glasses.
